Canada Walk of Fame Festival – Maestro Fresh Wes – G98.7FM 

Twenty five years ago, a DJ carefully places the stylus on the record and gave birth to beginning of Canadian Hip Hop history; naming its godfather, Maestro Fresh Wes.

Michael Williams, original host of RapCity, welcomed everyone to an historic all-star event that closed the festivities of the 15th anniversary for Canada’s Walk of Fame.

As the fiddler played his violin and sound streamed across the strings, the darkened Toronto Massey Hall stage lights up for Canada’s Maestro Fresh Wes dressed in a formal black tuxedo and a single leather medallion. He “Drop the Needle” as his first track for the evening.

During the show, Maestro honoured inductee Alan Thicke and gave a special tribute to legendary jazz musician, Oscar Peterson, in song, titled “Timeless” – Divine Brown joined in a soulful duet.

Many other performances combined the night, “Criminal Minds” featuring Infinite, who stepped on stage incognito, unmasking his identity during the chorus.

Kardinal Offishall expressed his admiration and respect to Maestro, accrediting him as his personal role model since the age of 12. Queuing the touching song, “Stick to your Vision”, describing the highs and lows of fame – also penned as a self-help motivational book written to empower his supporters.  

Maestro Fresh Wes concluded his show with “Pyramids in the Sand”, from his new album, “Orchestrated Noise”. His music reveals no trace of age; his fans look forward to another 25 years!
