My name is PepperBrooks and I am an inspiring journalist, creative strategist, and human services counsellor – and over the last 18 years, I’ve focused my life on helping vulnerable communities. Why?
I was bullied as a child and it damaged my self-esteem, which I am learning to regain, still, every single day.
I became a teen mother, survived domestic violence and a nasty custody battle.
I started a new relationship but became a widow before my 30th birthday.
I struggled with depression. I still struggle with depression; it was my best kept secret.
Despite having to cope with my own mental health, I find solace in helping others. I am a supporter of all things fair… who tries to lessen racial, social and economic disparities through my community work and sharing personal stories, here on the The PuRRR.
I’m a highly sensitive person and sometimes terribly shy, but I’m putting aside my insecurities, acknowledging my fears, being uncomfortably honest – hoping to make a difference and giving the little girl inside a space to be heard…
HERE IS MY STORY

I am a survivor of domestic abuse.
Before my 30th birthday, I lost my new partner and became a widow.

I felt like I had nothing. I was grieving. Somehow, I hung on to my creativity

I had to change my circumstances, I wanted to go back to school. So I did…at the local library.

I stayed up every night reading till 4:00 a.m. and gave myself homework.
I studied hard and graduated in Business Communications!

I used my new skills to start my own small business – The Writology.

I displayed my first ad at a bus shelter…and got a call in 20 minutes!
I wrote resumes, biographies and business letters, I was busy.

I upgraded to writing copy and business plans with winning marketing strategies and innovative ideas!
As a creative strategist, I assigned homework to other small businesses to keep their costs low.

Word-of-mouth spread – more and more businesses wanted homework!

Completed assignments became our success!

I remember, a long time ago, when I was broke yet creative…

NOW…I share my wealth of knowledge creatively 🙂
…and THE STORY continues
